CDC: Food portion sizes four times as big since 1950's May 25th 2012, 11:18 If you think food portion sizes are out of control, you're right. The Centers for Disease Control has released new figures that show the average restaurant meal is now four times larger than it was in the 1950s. In the 50s, the average hamburger was 3.9 ounces.
