Two sisters were rushed to the hospital by their mother in Tacoma, Wash., after coming home from a school field day with severe sunburns – a situation their mother said could have been prevented.
However, the school that the girls, Violet and Zoe Michener, attend in Tacoma has banned carrying and applying sunscreen. So the girls were not allowed to reapply their sunscreen unless they had a doctor's note, ABC News reported.
To make the situation worse, Zoe suffers from a form of albinism, making her fair skin even more sensitive to the sun.
According to Dan Voelpel, a spokesman for Tacoma School District, they are numerous additives in sunscreen that can possibly cause allergic reactions in kids.
Washington isn't the only state to ban sunscreen without a doctor's note. In fact, according to ABC News, California is the only state that allows sunscreen without permission from a doctor.
