Niki Taylor's tips for juggling motherhood and a career

Renowned fashion and fitness model Niki Taylor has graced the covers of magazines, billboards and television shows from the young age of 14.  Now, at age 37, Taylor is still heavily invested in her TV and modeling career – but she's added another challenging job to the list: being a mother to four children.

Recently, she sat down with Dr. Manny Alvarez, senior managing health editor at FoxNews.com, to share her tips for moms on how to stay healthy while juggling multiple responsibilities.

According to The Working Mother report, 48 percent of working mothers and 42 percent of stay-at-home moms say they feel guilty they're not doing enough to take care of themselves.

"[Mothers] are just too busy taking care of the family, they're taking kids to school, taking them to soccer practice, and they're leaving out the most important part of the equation—that is taking care of themselves," Taylor said.

Taylor, who is the mother of 18-year-old twin boys, a 3-year-old daughter, and an 11-month-old baby, says she wakes up an hour before her children to fit in 'me time' for exercise such as jogging on the treadmill or pushing her baby in a stroller outside.

"You have to have a schedule; you have to have a routine," Taylor said.  "It's so important."

After exercising, Taylor said she makes herself a protein shake for extra energy.

"I think it's important to get that protein in there," Taylor said.  "…Plus, you get your vitamins and your nutrients."

Taylor said she also takes supplements for healthy hair, skin and nails.

"Everybody should be on a probiotic," Taylor recommended.

Alvarez agreed, adding: "I think more and more people should be on probiotics for the simple reason that if we look at the food products people consume – especially on busy schedule –there's a lot of processed foods…At the end of the day, people's GI systems are a little out of whack."

Besides keeping up a healthy routine and eating healthy, Taylor said she also tries to indulge herself sometimes, such as getting a massage.

"Don't feel guilty," she said.  "If you're not happy, nobody else is going to be happy at home."
