How to deal with excessive sweating
Oct 9th 2012, 19:30

Sweating is the body's natural way of cooling down – but if you perspire more than normal, or when you're not being physically active, it could be a sign of another medical condition.

Sweating is associated with various conditions such as thyroid disease, diabetes, an infection, acid reflux and menopause.

Certain psychiatric and blood pressure can also cause excessive sweating – also known as hyperhidrosis.

"If you notice sudden changes, you should talk to your doctor so he or she can treat the underlying cause of the problem," said Dr. Manny Alvarez, senior managing health editor of FoxNews.com.

Treatments for hyperhidrosis include prescription antiperspirants, medications and surgery to remove sweat glands or detach a nerve to stop sweating.

Some patients also turn to Botox, which is an FDA-approved treatment to keep the body from producing sweat.
